MARRIAGE STORY

Starring Scarlett Johansson (Nicole) and Adam Driver (Charlie), Marriage Story shows the breaking up of marriage and at the same time, keeping the family together. When Charlie and Nicole Barber have decided to file a divorce to end their decade-long marriage, a mediator asks them to recall the reasons they fell in love with each other.

Marriage isn’t the only one they have to discuss but also the custody of their son Henry.

Whether or not you’re marriage is on the rocks, Marriage Story is a nice movie to watch with your loved ones as this gives you a point of discussion. Perhaps, it would encourage you as well to reminisce the reasons why you love the one you’re with right now.

OKJA

Released in 2017, Okja is a story of a strong bond between a young girl and a genetically modified “super pig”. Mija has been taking care of Okja for 10 years but things have changed when Mirando Corporation takes Okja to New York.

You have to watch the film to find out where did director Bong Joon-ho has led the audience to that it gained mostly positive reviews. Known film critic Peter Traver gives a thumbs up to Okja, saying “A movie that’s part kiddie treat and part horrorshow – who else but this visionary filmmaker could blend sentiment and blood splatter with such righteous abandon?”

THE MEYEROWITZ STORIES

The Meyerowitz Stories is a family comedy-drama film that depicts the conflicts among siblings, who gather together in New York City. A growing grudges and conflict with their father sets the story of the film executed with humors but you know you will take the story seriously.

Life lessons on realization, understanding and acceptance are combined together to this film to provide a nicely written story.

OVER THE MOON

This animated film tells the tale of a girl who attempts to travel to the moon to prove that the goddess of moon is real. Fei Fei, along with her bunny Chin, rides on the rocket ship she built with a belief that she would meet moon goddess Chang’e. When she has finally met her, things don’t sit well when the goddess demanded her to bring the gift that would bring her love of her life Houyi.

Over the Moon is a perfect kids and family movie to watch on Netflix, not to mention the moon cake making scene that would make you want to eat moon cake.

THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7

Based on true events, The Trial of the Chicago 7 is about the group of anti-Vietnam protesters, known as Chicago Seven, who are charged with conspiracy and crossing state lines to cause riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Most movie critics gave positive reviews to the film, saying that its 1960s setting is parallel to the modern day society. The movie was originally set to be released on big screen but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the distribution rights was sold to Netflix.

THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT

If you haven’t watched this TV miniseries on Netflix, you’ve definitely missed the talk of the town.

The Queen’s Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, heightens up the chess board game to another level. It brings the audience to the world of sports in a perfectly done cinematography and story that would want you to finish the whole season in one sit.

Set in Cold War era, Elizabeth Harmon sets foot on Methuen Home for Girls after her mother died due to car accident. Her journey to the world of chess has started from the day her teacher asked her to clean the blackboard eraser at the basement, where custodian Mr. Shaibel was playing chess. Curious of the game, Beth asks Mr. Shaibel to teach him chess and the rest is history.
